Alex Xerri (b. 1993) is a Sydney based painter. Xerri’s practice draws on pre-Millenia aesthetic sensibilities to engage in world building through the use of recurring and evolving motifs rendered in acrylic and stone on canvas.
Xerri draws upon formative memories including making MacPaint nature paintings on a beige computer; navigating vibrant, polygonal worlds in retro video games; bright, wobbly animation cel cartoons; David Attenborough documentaries, National Geographic magazine and dinosaur movies.
Alex Xerri has graduated from National Art School with a Bachelor of Fine Art and a Masters of Fine Art, both majoring in painting. Xerri has exhibited in various shows in Sydney and Melbourne, and internationally in Nottingham, England, and Seattle, Santa Fe and New York City in the United States of America.
