Frequently Asked Questions

Enrolment

  • Bookings can be made online at wwas.org.au or by calling 9387 2461.
  • If availability permits, it is possible to join a term course even if it has already begun. Please call 9387 2461 to enquire.
  • Term courses run for nine weeks unless otherwise stated.
  • Please choose carefully, enrolment fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Fees

  • Fees for adult classes exclude materials unless otherwise stated. Refer to the individual course descriptions on the website for specific inclusions and a material list of items to bring.
  • As a not-for-profit art school, we keep our prices as low as possible, often well below other art schools. We do not offer further discounts to pensioners, students and concession card holders.
  • Fees for children and teen classes include all materials.
  • We are a registered provider of NSW Creative Kids Vouchers and accept these vouchers towards any children’s course or workshops

Admission Requirements

  • No qualifications are necessary to attend any courses at WWAS.
  • We welcome beginners to advanced students. Courses more appropriate for intermediate to advanced students will be stipulated in the course description. Most courses are suitable for beginners as our teaching staff are able to differentiate their teaching to suit different abilities. If you have any questions or wish to discuss which course would be the most appropriate for you, please call the office as we will be happy to help with this.
  • “Open Studio” courses are best suited to students with intermediate to advanced skills or experience. These courses are for students wishing to develop their own projects with tutor guidance in a group setting.

Changes and cancellations

  • We reserve the right to postpone or cancel courses under any circumstances. If this happens, we will contact enrolled students to offer an alternative course or a full refund.
  • We reserve the right to amend any course, schedule, location or teacher listed online before or during the course.
  • WWAS does not take responsibility for any materials purchased for courses that are canceled.

Withdrawals, transfers and absences

Please choose carefully before booking a course, workshop or prize entry as we do not offer refunds, credits or transfers due to a change of circumstance or missed classes.

Getting here

If arriving by car, please allow plenty of time to find local parking as there is no parking onsite. Many streets immediately surrounding the school are limited to two hour parking but there is parking to be found for a longer duration on certain residential streets in the area (such as Ocean Street). Clearways are in place before 9am on Bondi Road and Penkivil Street.

We are a 10 minute walk from Bondi Junction train station and are well serviced by local buses. The 333, 380 and 381 buses stop nearby.

Materials

All adult painting and drawing courses require you to bring your own materials to class. A suggested materials list can be found on each course page. Eckersley’s in Bondi Junction, The Sydney Art Store in Botany and Art on King in Newtown as the closest art stores. There are also several online stores available.

Pottery students can purchase clay onsite by the kilo or bag. Firing charges apply.

Student benefits

  • Students are welcome to use the kitchen during your time at the school. Tea and coffee is available as well as a fridge to keep snacks and drinks.
  • We have a well stocked library of art books that can be borrowed by current students during term time.
  • Students are welcome to use the courtyard to enjoy the sun and a tea break.
  • The Joan Purves Prize, valued $2500, is awarded to a current painting and drawing student each year to encourage life-long learning and excellence.
  • All students are invited to enter the three additional prizes run by the school including The Waverley Art Prize, Printmaking Prize and 9×5 Landscape Prize.
  • An end of year exhibition is held at the school each year showcasing the best works of each student. This exhibition is open to the general public and offers a wonderful opportunity for students to share their work with family and friends.

Tutors

  • All Tutors at WWAS are trained, experienced and exhibiting artists.
  • Tutors that run children’s classes are required to have a valid Working with Children Check.

Workplace health and safety

  • All students must comply with health and safety regulations at WWAS.
  • Three out of four studios are located on the ground level making them suitable for wheelchair users or students unable to negotiate stairs. Please check which studio your course will be located, if you are concerned about this issue.
  • An accessible toilet is onsite.
    Students are asked to notify the administration office via info@wwas.org.au of any existing medical conditions or disabilities that may affect participation in a course.

Creative Kids Vouchers

Our popular School Holiday Program and children’s after-school classes welcome Creative Kids Vouchers. If you wish to book using a creative kids voucher, please call 9387 2461 before booking.

Waverley Woollahra Art School as a Creative Kids Provider has obligations to provide the correct Creative Kids Voucher Number for the named child and the accurate date of birth for the Child the Voucher has been issued to by the NSW Govt:

Vouchers can only be used:

  • at one time (if the chosen activity fees for courses at WWAS are less than $100, the remaining balance can be used at WWAS for another course)
  • during the calendar year they’re issued
  • solely for the specific child named on the voucher

Vouchers cannot be:

  • split between more than one provider or registration
  • split between family member e.g/ a sister who has already used the creative kids voucher cannot use another child’s voucher in the same name
  • used for individual items (like paints, instruments, uniforms, computers)
  • redeemed for cash.
