During Springtime in the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne, loquat trees erupt with clusters of small yellow fruit, adorning the streets as a reminder of the suburb’s multicultural, layered history. This painting acts as a homage to these neighbourhoods, their mixed cultures and their direct influence on the landscape. The branches are arms reaching out into the air, over a fence off into the future and of what they will witness and become. It’s the joyful action of jumping up, smelling the ripeness, plucking the orbs amongst the rays of light and the feeling of scoring a “catch of the day”.
