‘Hyde Park Gothic’ is both a coming together and fragmentation of imagery in a painted response to the site of Hyde Park in Sydney. This place was once a wetland and has been continually modified since colonisation to become an urban park, designed and planted in European tradition to become a green space used for leisure and at times for political social gatherings. This artificial environment frames St Mary’s Cathedral, an example of Gothic Revival architecture that has also evolved and been modified over time.
