Hakea Petiolaris 1 by Hilary Warren

20 x 20cm | photopolymer, etching

The inspiration for my current works is the diversity of Australian native plants in the Australian National Botanic Gardens in Canberra. The aim of this work is to emphasise the dramatic effect of light transmitted through the leaves of Hakea Petiolaris, a native of Western Australia.

For this intaglio print, I created an etched plate using a modified digital photograph and the technique of Photopolymer Photogravure. The etched plate was then inked intaglio with Charbonnel Carbone Black and the ink was then transferred into dampened Hahnemuhle 300 gsm paper with a press.
