What do you do at WWAS?

I teach Drawing and Painting on Wednesday evenings. During the 9 week course, we cover still life, portraiture, the human figure, landscape and animal anatomy.

Tell us about your artistic/career journey to this point.

It all started when I was still at school, making the top 1 percent in art for the HSC and then straight to Art School. Drawing and painting was all I ever wanted to do since I was a child. After art school I saved up doing odd jobs and spent a year roaming around Europe visiting the great museums of the world and then settled  in Paris where I lived, painted and exhibited for 4 years.  Painting and exhibiting is still a major part of my life with 25 solo shows to date and numerous group shows.

What is your favourite thing about WWAS?

I have always enjoyed entering this historical building. The creative vibe is immediately encapsulating. The staff and students are amazingly talented and every class is a surprise.

If you could share a meal with three artists living or dead, who would they be?

Leonardo, Rembrandt and Picasso.

What do you do when not creating or teaching?

When its windy,  kitesurfing is my favourite hobby. I enjoy painting water and it’s another way to engage with the environment. I can understand why Turner supposedly strapped himself to a sailing mask during a storm!

What inspires or motivates you?

I primarily work with landscape subject matter so basic things like watching a sunrise or sunset as well bushwalking and outdoor painting and sketching.

If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?

It would be painting and sketching outdoors.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

Paris was a favourite. The Louvre stretching for 1 kilometre with an endless variety of masterpieces on view.

If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?

Superman would be great. Being able to fly and view the landscape from a different perspective would be brilliant.

What’s your favourite quote?

A famous quote from the Artist Goya in the final years of his life said ‘ I’m still learning’.
