Celebrate the spirit of Australian Impressionism with the Waverley Woollahra Art School’s 9×5 Landscape Art Prize, now in its 10th year. This prestigious competition invites artists to explore the beauty of the Australian landscape, echoing the spontaneity of early outdoor painters who famously used small cigar boxes as their canvases.

Entry fees:

  • $45 for one entry
  • $70 for two entries
  • $100 for three entries Postage charge: $10 flat rate.

Each entrant receives a 9×5 plywood board to paint their masterpiece. Finalists will have their works displayed in a prestigious exhibition at the Waverley Woollahra Art School, offering great exposure to both emerging and established artists. Judges

Tom Carment

Sydney artist, Tom Carment, is a renowned painter known for his evocative landscapes. His work, often painted from life, captures the natural environment with a sensitive interpretation of light.
Carment’s landscapes have been featured in numerous exhibitions and selected for the Wynne Prize eight times. He won the 2014 NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize and has works held in major collections, including the Art Gallery of NSW. His published books, Seven Walks – Cape Leeuwin to Bundeena (2014) and Womerah Lane (2019), explore his deep connection to the landscape.

Nicole Kelly

Nicole Kelly is an Australian artist based in Wollongong, known for her bold approach to landscape painting. Her work challenges traditional notions of landscape representation, disrupting the genre’s conventions. Kelly’s exploration of the Australian landscape critically engages with its complexities, moving beyond aesthetic beauty to highlight deeper cultural and emotional resonances. She has earned numerous accolades, including the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship and the Royal Art Society of NSW Young Artist Award. Kelly’s art is held in prestigious collections, such as those of Macquarie University and the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery.
