How long have you been at WWAS?

I just started my first semester!

Where do you travel from each week?

I’m Local, I walk from Bondi beach.

What class do you do at WWAS?

Printmaking with Robert Ives on Thursday mornings.

What do you do when you are not creating?

I am a  landscape architect.

What are you reading or listening to?

Reading: A gentleman in Moscow – Amor Towles. It’s delightful.

Listening: Spinifex Gum. I’ve been out of the country so may be a bit late on the band wagon for this one but it’s the Marliya Choir (young aboriginal women) colabortion with some of the cat empire. They’re based in my hometown Cairns and share the stories of the Yindjibarndi people in Pilbara, WA. The outcome is phenomenal.

Who is your tutor and what do you like about them?

Robert. He is wonderful; so clam, patient and insightful. I love the way he guides your work to grow without trying to push you to hard in one direction or another so you can explore your own style.

Why did you join WWAS? or Why do you keep coming back to WWAS?

To learn a new skill and experiment.

What are you currently working on?

A three layered coloured block print. I like the way it challenges you to think differently about how to structure an artwork.

What inspires or motivates your art practice?

Immersion and the peace and clarity that comes with it.

Who are your favourite artists?

Recently, in the sprit of the course I’ve been trawling printmakers on Instagram. I love the work of Gail Brodholt who depicts London’s urbanity, with layered atmospheric colour. =If I had to name a classic gallery fave, stand me in front of a Henri Rousseau jungle scene and I’m weak at the knees.

What would you say to someone thinking about taking an art class at WWAS?

Do it! It’s up to you how much you make of it, and you will love the community and the learning experience along the way.
