I see painting itself as a physical act of hope with poetic intention. My work centres around neo-romantic notions of nature, hope and our capacity for unconditional love. I have chased these rainbows especially hard in the dark skies of recent times.
My 5 year old daughter recently pointed to the clouds and said ‘Look daddy, the sea is in the sky’. She was right.
As a child, my mother taught me to paint. For many years we have talked about painting and the spiritual relationship of family. I have been thinking recently of myself as sitting in between my daughter and mother, of connections and reflections.
I see the sky as a mirror, reflecting the space beyond the horizon. It is here that the sky becomes infinite and the ocean currents will forever be responding to the energy of the moon. Every painting is a rainbow in the sky.
