Openhearted by Dianne Longley
28 x 40 cm | photopolymer, digital
Exotic and quirky, fanciful and joyful, my still life prints feature vintage Japanese ceramics combined with curious and unusual primordial plants to create visual tales drawn from the theatre of life. These narratives can be absurd or playful, wistful or philosophical. The print ‘Openhearted’ shows a pixie figure in a flattened picture space with a bonny baby lamb pushing a cart. They have their own distinct destinies, but they are also linked by generosity of spirit and kindness. This series of prints are a combination of photography and printmaking. I grow unusual plants in vintage and retro vases. The photographed plants and vases are translated into prints using photopolymer plates. The hand-printed images have an old-fashioned print quality, similar to early commercial colour printing in books and magazines.
