Acrylic painting with a base made from polyurethane expanding foam
This artwork is inspired by the art museum, a place that evokes unpredictable feelings and invites personal interpretation. Drawing from my visits to art institutions, it illustrates how art sparks unexpected emotions, allowing for personal interpretation and encouraging me to become more open and responsive to both art and the world. The fragmented frame reflects the chaos of feelings like curiosity and uncertainty, while the abstract forms at the center represent my transformation and openness to these uncertain experiences. The base made from polyurethane foam conveys a sense of belonging I get from observing people interact with art. It reminds me that people still value art, which inspires me to contribute to this ongoing interaction with my own work. I chose this material because it holds personal meaning for me, reminding me of the volcanic basalt rocks I grew up with on a small island in Korea, which symbolize the warmth and sense of home I associated with art museums.
