Halfway through the second painting in this series I realised that I was painting my mother’s memories of growing up in the small NSW town of Goolagong. During her last years she told stories of the huge gums and bushland, the river and the ‘Stateley homes’ in the area. These are deeply personal paintings about imagination and the imprinting of nature passed down through the generations.
