How to Apply: To express your interest, please complete THIS FORM.

Applications are open now and will close on October 25, 2024.

Email info@wwas.org.au for any further questions.

What does it mean to be a board member?

All board members are directors of the school. The board is the forum that decides the strategic vision of WWAS and makes decisions (financial and non-financial) to assist the school to implement and achieve these goals.

The board meets once per month to discuss a range of issues, which includes:

  • Review progress on strategic objectives
  • Check on financial results
  • Address important issues and risks facing the school
  • Make decisions on behalf of the school

Board meetings are usually held on Zoom on a weekday after 5 pm. Some meetings will be scheduled to be held in person at WWAS, subject to board members’ availability.

For more information about the role of a board member, see here.

Multiple Opportunities Available

We are seeking multiple directors to join the board with experience in any of the following areas:

  • Marketing/Business Development
  • Human resources
  • Legal/governance
  • Finance/accounting (for the Treasurer role)
  • Fundraising
  • Other small business/NFP experience
  • Tutor representative (this role must be filled by a current tutor)

Additionally, we are seeking individuals who are interested in the not-for-profit sector and are passionate about the arts. This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in the arts community and in a school that has been part of the fabric of the eastern suburbs community for many decades.

What is Expected of Board Members?

  • Serve for at least the next 2 years
  • Commitment of a few hours a week (subject to board members’ availability)
  • Attendance/assistance at WWAS events (e.g., Waverley Art Prize, 9×5 show, end of year show, and other events hosted by the school)
  • You will need to be a member of the WWAS cooperative (contact info@wwas.org.au to apply)
  • Board directors cannot enter WWAS art prizes
  • All board directors must apply for a Director ID (More info [here])
  • All board positions are voluntary

What Do I Get Out of It?

Being a board member is a great opportunity to build your skillset and learn how an organisation runs from the inside. You will gain experience in areas such as budgets, marketing, operations, governance, and more. Many of our board members have never served on another board, so don’t let imposter syndrome hold you back!

This role also provides an opportunity to meaningfully contribute to an established not-for-profit in the arts community and be part of the welcoming and diverse community that WWAS has built over many decades.

How to Apply

If you have the passion, interest, and skills to be a productive board member, please submit the Expression of Interest [form] below.

The AGM is scheduled to be held on 9 November, and interviews will be held in early/mid October.

Front-running candidates will have the opportunity to introduce themselves to coop members at or ahead of the AGM, either with a brief written statement, a pre-recorded short video clip, or a few words in person at the AGM.

Attendees will then vote to select board members.

If you have any questions, please email info@wwas.org.au.
