Jo Mellor is a textile artist who investigates the environmental degradation in Broken Hill, The Darling River, and The Menindee Lakes in far West NSW due to drought, mining and water mismanagement. She lives and works on Cammeraygal land.
She has exhibited in group exhibitions since 2016. She held a solo exhibition in NYC, USA in 2019. Mellor has been a finalist in The Waverley Art Prize in 2022, Kudos Emerging Art Award in 2017 and 2022, The Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize in 2018, Pro Hart Outback art prize in 2018 and 2022, The Fisher Ghost Art Prize in 2019, 2020 & 2021 and 2022. She has also been a finalist in The Meroogal Women’s Art Prize in 2020, 2022, The Northern Beaches Environmental Art and Design Award in 2021, 2022, The Incinerator Art Award: Art for Social Change in
2021 and The Greenway Art Prize in 2021.
Mellor received an Australian Government Training Research Scholarship for a Master of Fine Arts (Research) Degree at UNSW Sydney in 2019 and is due to complete this degree in August 2023. She received a UNSW, Sydney grant in 2021.
Mellor was awarded a Fine Arts Diploma at Parsons School of Design in NYC, USA and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) degree at UNSW, Sydney in 2018.
Her work is in private collections in Australia, Europe and USA.
