Quiet, reserved, restrained.

‘White Squares with Rectangle’ explores the subtle, shifting nature of tone and form through repeated layering of white oil paint on raw linen with a geometric aesthetic. As shapes accumulate, they transform – becoming paradoxically whiter and more present. There is intentional evidence of the artist’s hand, as no masking is used. Shapes are almost exclusively created with odd numbers—a playful system that mirrors an interest in gentle disruption within order.

Through the simplicity of form and colour, stillness and void, the painting offers respite, a brief repose, allowing us somewhere to explore our own contemplations from our fast-paced contemporary life that is saturated with digital imagery.
