When I travel I seek out the old houses. I photograph them, then draw them using chalky pastel pencils to capture the colours of the time. As well as the colours I like the scale of these old places, not as greedy and conspicuous as the houses we build today. In the sun they look enduring and optimistic, but they have a remoteness too that appeals to me. Their curtains are drawn, the inhabitants not in view and gardens are discreetly tended.
