Joy is a form of resistance : Portrait of Dylan Mooney by HEGO

$10,000.00

Size (cm): 48 x 62
acrylic on canvas

I painted acclaimed Artist Dylan Mooney because i am inspired by his Art. Mooney is a proud Yuwi, Torres Strait, and South Sea Islander man who was born in Mackay, Queensland.

I was instantly drawn towards Dylan’s bright, illustrative style in his Artworks. I find Mooney’s ability to seamlessly incorporate his own culture and lived experience into his artworks, while also giving agency to people of colour in the broader community, so fascinating and beautiful.

Dylan’s portrait provides visual cues to facets of him as an Artist. In a flat, illustrated style, I painted part of the Torres Strait Islander flag, a subtle Clothing the gaps Aboriginal flag cap, and a rainbow, symbolic of both queer love and the optimism that permeates his work. He wears a jumper designed by acclaimed Indigenous Artist Kaylene Whiskey.
