From the enforced self-reflection imparted from the 2020/21 Covid lockdowns, The ‘Journey to the Year I became Invisible’ series, ‘map’ my personal journey to the arrival of turning 60 during this time and my experience as an ‘older’ woman in the public arena.
To document my journeys, I like to celebrate the unwanted and the discarded. I recycle domestic materials, thread, vintage books and paper. In this work I have used ‘well thumbed’ – with that distinctive and evocative, nostalgic perfume of 60s car fumes and petrol – vintage road maps, hand stitched and layered to make new stories.
