Kate Bender’s work uses colour transitions to describe forms and spaces which, in combination with the use of hard and soft edges, create uncertainty in perception of form and space. The works occupy the liminal space between abstraction and realism, the paintings are a depiction of curvaceous abstract sculptural forms and the space in which they reside, relishing the interplay between space and form.

Into the Night Garden is an abstract painting of imagined forms and spaces, a dreamlike atmosphere. Curvaceous abstract forms come in and out of focus, drifting in a fictional space, appearing at once ethereal and intangible, but also substantive and three dimensional. Transitions of colour guide the eye from brightly lit luminous spaces, softly leading the transformation from space into form. Into the Night Garden takes the viewer into another world of intimate spaces that invoke a sensorial and immersive experience.
