Contemporary Painting & Drawing with Philippa Hagon

This course looks at what is happening in Drawing and Painting today.

Students have the opportunity to follow set class work or explore a research method studio practice.

 

Varies approaches and techniques are explored – from the fundamentals to pushing the boundaries to extend your art practice. Students are guided in the medium of their choice but are encouraged to broaden their practice.

Formal qualities such as: – shape, form, mark making variations, spatial complexities, tonal qualities, colour theory, compositional devices and materials & mediums use are investigated.

 

Working from observation & existing material, students will produce many studies, each informing the next with surprising results quite different from the source material. Some students push further into abstraction, blurring the line between abstraction & representation, while others may continue learning observational skills. Artists both historical & contemporary will be looked at & their influences discussed.

 

All levels welcome – from the complete beginner to advance levels

Exploration & development will be different for each student

A series of works will be developed.

 

Students are welcome to bring in their own images or subject as a catalyst.

Most weeks a still life is set up to work from

Courses run for 9 weeks from start date.
