Conditions of Entry 9×5 Prize 2019

  1. Eligibility

The 9×5 Landscape Prize is open to all artists 16 years and over.

First Prize: $1,000 | Second Prize: $500

3: A Prize for Painting

Entries in the 9×5 Landscape Prize may be paintings in any medium, including oil, acrylic or watercolour. The theme is open.

Entries open:  9.00am Thursday 8thAugust 2019

Entries close: 12 midday Tuesday 1st October 2019

  1. Artwork Specifications

Works must be painted on the 9” x 5” plyboard supplied by the WWAS office.

No other material will be accepted. Wet paintings will not be accepted and works must be unframed.

5.How to Enter

Entering the 9×5 is a 2-step process:

  1. Registration: Register by completing the online form.You will receive a code via email once you register which you need to use to upload images of your artwork. You need to register to receive you official 9×5 board *
  2. Submission: Submit a digital image of each artwork before midday October 1st via your online registration. Upload one image of each entry. To access your registration use the link sent to you when you register.

* Boards can be collected from the WWAS office or sent via mail. If opting for mail delivery of your board/s, please allow sufficient time to receive the official 9×5 board and create your artwork before the closing date. Boards will not be sent via mail after Friday 20 September

Entries open: Thursday 8thAugust 2019 and close at 12.00 midday on Monday 1st October 2019

Finalists in the 9×5 Landscape Prize are selected by the judges from digital images of each artwork entered.

  1. Image format and submission

Each image must be submitted online using your login code.

  • JPEG format, 300dpi and less than 2MB in file size

Each image must be clearly labelled with the artist’s name and title of artwork.

  1. Entry Fee

A fee of $35 per entry (including GST)

If you cannot pick up 9 x 5 boards from the School, an extra postage charge will apply.

  1. Process of Selection

The Judges will select the finalists for the exhibition from digital images of each artwork entered. The winner will be judged from the finalists. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence or dispute will be entered into by the judges.

  1. Announcement of finalists

Works which have been selected for exhibition will be announced online at:–landscape-prize/ on Friday 22ndNovember 2019.

  1. Delivery of Finalists for Exhibition

Works that have been selected to be hung in the exhibition must be delivered to Waverley Woollahra Art School no later than 12.00 midday Friday 6thDecember 2019.  

  1. Sale of Artworks and commission

At the artist’s discretion, selected entries can be offered for sale at the exhibition. A 30% commission applies to all artworks sold, with proceeds returned to the Waverley Woollahra Art School. The sale price indicated on the entry form must remain fixed throughout the exhibition and should include the commission, GST (if applicable) and any other commercial gallery or agents’ fees. If an entry is not for sale, please mark it clearly with NFS on the back of the artwork and on the entry form. Sales can be made from Thursday 12th December at the prize giving and for the duration of the exhibition.

  1. Reproduction of Images

Waverley Woollahra Art School reserves the right to use the digital images of artworks entered in the 9×5 Landscape Prize, and photographs of artworks in the exhibition, for the purposes of publicity, documentation and cataloguing in paper, digital and electronic format.

  1. Privacy

Personal information collected will only be used for the purposes of the 9×5 Landscape Prize or WWAS promotion and will be held by the administration staff of Waverley Woollahra Art School.

  1. Ownership

Entries must not be the property of a third party. If an artwork is being entered by a commercial gallery or agent, the artist must give their permission.

  1. Exhibition Period

Entries selected for exhibition must be displayed for the entire exhibition period from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm Thursday 12th December – Sunday 16th December 2019.

Works must be collected no later than 12.00 midday on Friday 20th December 2019.

Works collected late will incur a late fee of $5 per day.

  1. Insurance

Artists are responsible for insuring their artworks against theft and damage during transit and throughout the exhibition. Waverley Woollahra Art School will take all reasonable care, but will not be responsible or liable for any loss or damage.
