Waverley Art Prize – Conditions of Entry
The Waverley Art Prize is open to all permanent Australian residents 18 years. Waverley Council Councillors and employees and their families, are not eligible to enter.
Entries in the Waverley Art Prize must be painting, drawing or print in any medium including oil, acrylic or watercolour. Entries must be an original work by the artist and completed after 1 July 2016. The theme is open. Entries close at 5pm on Friday 19 May 2017.
3. ACQUISITIVE PRIZES
The Waverley Art Prize and the Mayor’s Prize for a local artist are acquisitive prizes. The winning artworks become the property of Waverley Council, and the winning entrants receive the prize money. The artists retain copyright of the artwork.
- Waverley Art Prize: $6,000 Acquisitive
- The Mayors Prize: $2,000 Acquisitive
- People’s Choice prize (total): $1000 Non acquisitive
- Oil Painting prize $1000 non acquisitive, worth of oil paints sponsored by Art Spectrum
- Acrylic Painting prize $1000 non acquisitive, worth of acrylic paints sponsored by Matisse Derivan
- Drawing Prize $500 cash non acquisitive by Waverley-Woollahra Art School
- Printmaking Prize $500 cash non acquisitive by Waverley-Woollahra Art School
5: ARTWORK SPECIFICATIONS
Works should be mounted, framed and ready for hanging, with a suitable cord or wire attached between two flat D-rings on the back of the artwork. Stretched canvas will be accepted unframed, but all other artwork must be framed. Wet paintings will not be accepted.
Works (including diptychs and triptychs) must not be more than 1.2m (120cm) wide and 1.6m (160cm) high, including framing.
7. HOW TO ENTER
To enter the Waverley Art Prize, entrants may complete the online form and upload submit one digital image of each artwork along with payment of entry fee (payment must be per artwork). Entries open on 1 March 2017 and close at 5pm on 19 May 2017. Entry into the Waverley Art Prize exhibition as a prize finalist is through pre-selection from digital images of each artwork entered.
8: IMAGE FORMAT AND SUBMISSION
Each image must be submitted as: 1) JPEG format, 300dpi and less than 2MB in file size per image Each image entry must follow the naming convention: Surname – First name – Title – Dimensions in cm
9: ENTRY FEE
A fee of $45 per entry (including GST) must be paid at the time of submission of the online entry form following the link to payment located on the digital entry form.Hard copy entries must be submitted to the admin staff at Waverley Woollahra Art School and payments made by either credit card, cheque or money. Cash and Eftpos payment can be made at Waverley Woollahra Art School when dropping off hard copy entries – please ensure you are given a receipt if making a cash or Eftpos payment. Entries will not be processed until payment has been received.
10: NUMBER OF ENTRIES
A maximum of 5 artwork entries per artist.
11: ENTRY POSTAL ADDRESS
Entries should be posted to Waverley Woollahra Art School, 138 Bondi Road, Bondi NSW, 2026.
The 2017 Waverley Art Prize will be judged by Wendy Sharpe (artist) and Will Sturrock (Director, Michael Reid Sydney)
13. PROCESS OF SELECTION FOR EXHIBITION
The Judge/s will select finalists for the Waverley Art Prize exhibition from digital images of each artwork entered. The winner of the Waverley Art Prize 2017 Open Prize and winner of the Mayor’s Prize will be judged from the finalists. The Judge/s decision is final and no correspondence or dispute will be entered into by the Judge/s, Waverley Woollahra Art School or Waverley Council.
14. ANNOUNCEMENT OF ENTRIES SELECTED FOR EXHIBITION
Works which have been selected for the Waverley Art Prize exhibition will be announced online at www.wwas.org.au/artprize. Finalists will also be notified by email. A maximum of 50 works will be selected as finalists for exhibition and Prize judging.
15. DELIVERY OF FINALISTS’ ENTRIES FOR EXHIBITION
Works that have been selected for the Waverley Art Prize exhibition must be delivered to Waverley Woollahra Art School, 138 Bondi Road, Bondi, NSW, 2026 on Monday 27 June 2017, Tuesday 28 June 2017 or Wednesday 29 June 2017 between 9.00am and 5.00pm
- Works must be clearly marked with the entrant’s name, address, email address and phone number, title of the work and sale price (or marked NFS if not for sale).
- Each artist must provide an artist statement (up to 150 words) about their selected artwork and a JPEG at print resolution quality for the prize catalogue.
16. WAVERLEY ART PRIZE EXHIBITION
The Waverley Art Prize Exhibition will be held at the Waverley Woollahra Art School, 138 Bondi Road, Bondi, NSW, 2026 from Thursday 6 July 2017 to Sunday 16 July 2017.
17. ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS
Winners of the Waverley Art Prize will be announced at a special opening event at Waverley Woollahra Art School on Thursday 6 July 2017 at 6pm. All entrants are invited to attend this event. Please RSVP by email to email@example.com. The winner of the People’s Choice Prize will be announced at www.wwas.org.au/artprize on Monday 18 July 2017.
18. REPRODUCTION OF IMAGES
Waverley Council reserves the right to use the digital images of artworks entered in the prize, and photographs of artworks in the Waverley Art Prize Exhibition, for the purposes of publicity, documentation and cataloguing in paper, digital and electronic formats. Waverley Council will make appropriate acknowledgements.
Personal information collected will only be used for the purposes of the Waverley Art Prize and will be held by the administration staff of Waverley Woollahra Art School.
Entries must not be the property of a third party. If an artwork is being entered by a commercial gallery or agent, the artist must give their permission.
21. SALE OF ARTWORKS AND COMMISSION
At the artist’s discretion, entries selected for exhibition can be offered for sale through the Waverley Art Prize. A commission of 30% applies to all artworks sold with proceeds returned to the Waverley Woollahra Art School. The sale price indicated on the entry form must remain fixed throughout the exhibition and should include the commission, GST (if applicable), and any other commercial gallery or agents’ fees. If an entry is not for sale, please mark it clearly with NFS on the back of the artwork, and on the entry form – No sales will be made until the awards have been announced on Thursday 6 July 2017. Please note Waverley Council and Waverley Woollahra Art School will not be acting as an agent on behalf the artist/s for any sales made.
22. EXHIBITION PERIOD
Entries selected for exhibition must be displayed for the entire period of the Waverley Art Prize exhibition.
23. EXHIBITION DEINSTALL AND COLLECTION OF ART WORK
Exhibition of the Waverley Art Prize finalists will close at 3pm on Sunday 16 July 2017. Works must be collected no later than 5:30pm on the same date (Sunday 16 July 2017). Works collected late will incur a late fee of $5.00 per day.
Artists are responsible for insuring their artworks against theft and damage during transit and throughout the exhibition. Waverley Council and Waverley Woollahra Art School will take all reasonable care of the artworks whilst in their possession but will not be responsible or liable for any loss or damage.
In the event of a dispute regarding the interpretation of these conditions of entry, the decision of Waverley Council will be binding on all parties.
